Post Doc Esther Chevrot will present the paper Value-Based Leadership, written with Morten Bennedsen, at the COPE2022 conference, hosted ny Aarhus University in Herning, 16th - 18th of March, 2022.

Abstract:

Through a survey of the personal values of 1500 Danish CEOs, we construct a measure of value based leadership and investigate the impact on firm policies and firm outcomes. First, value based leadership is more common in family firms and with female leadership, but not correlated to leaders IQ nor to management practice. Second, value based leadership is correlated positive to firm performance. We support a causal interpretation of this relationship through studying CEO changes and CEO hospitalization. Third, value based leaders run flatter organizations, experience lower employees turnover and are more resilient towards a pandemic crisis. Taken together, leaders personal values are important factors in explaining the value they bring to their firms.
