Who influences child health?
This project contributes novel insights on how health care professionals - general practitioners - affect children’s healthcare and outcomes.
What are the impacts of physician characteristics and treatment styles on preventive care take-up and the health trajectories of children in Denmark? Researchers across disciplines have shown that the childhood period is consequential for life-long health, educational, and economic outcomes.
However, the impacts of interactions of young children with professionals, such as physicians, have not yet been studied in detail. Moreover, a robust literature documents large variation in service provision and outcomes across health care providers. Since young children primarily interact with the healthcare system through GPs, understanding the causal impacts of their characteristics and styles is important. We exploit unique Danish register data and quasi-experimental methods to identify the effect of GPs on children's care take-up and outcomes.
